More often than not, it is our psychological barriers that limit our own selves. What we think and believe affects how we feel and, in turn, how we act. There are many examples of the power of positive thinking and how it can change a person’s success. Take the “four minute mile”, for example. Time and again, in what seemed like a hopeless mission to run a mile under four minutes, runners pressed on to no avail. It became the accepted belief that it was just not possible for a human to run a mile in under 4 minutes.
However, Roger Bannister managed the mile run in less than 4 minutes and in 1975 was named “Sportsman of the Year” by Sports Illustrated and was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II. Suddenly, the curse was broken and the power of positive thinking won out, allowing 16 other runners to make the same accomplishment within 18 months of Bannister’s achievement. It was not a magic potion or sudden, strict training regimen that paved the way for the “impossible” to be accomplished. It was the simple fact that now, training was matched with the belief that it could be done.
Recent studies show that our daily feelings, perceptions and attitudes are processed through the brain into nerve impulses. Biochemicals then travel through the body and communicate information through the nervous system. In what seems like a miracle, science has shown that strong, daily, positive thinking, verbal encouragement and movement along with deep breathing exercises can actually re-program muscle tissue allowing athletes to achieve what may have been considered “impossible”, but what is now believed to be possible. And not just athletes – but regular folk like you and me can think positive and experience our own victories.
I have created an encouragement website called The Daily Hug – www.TheDailyHug.com. It is a website that invites you to sign up for daily, motivational and inspirational text messages. It is my hope that we will all benefit from the value, creativity and limitlessness that lies within each of us. We were meant to laugh and achieve with an ever-expansive quality of life. It’s easy. And it is for each of us. Believe and know your brilliant life without limits.
